Q&A: Very Limited Budget……IDEAS for Cheap wedding?
Question by CJ”SGIRL: Very Limited Budget……IDEAS for Cheap wedding?
I’m not into fancy weddings and neither is my fiance. IDK how I am even going to explain my situation. Have a budget for $ 500. Yeah I said $ 500…. My parents are not wealthy and his parents are not helping at all. I just want to get married, but I want it to look pretty and be decent. I am a plush size girl and I did find a dress for under $ 200. Found bridemaid dresses for $ 20 a dress. There is going to be two of those. Got the flower girl dress because her mother has one already. I just need CHEAP very CHEAP ideas for the rest. For the dj, my brother has a sound system and I have a mp3 player full of music that could be the music. I just need ideas for food and decorations. I’m not exactly sure which color is going to be used, the dresses that are 20 dollars are black and going to put red sash around it. Or if I can find royal blue brides dress that would be another option. Should i go with a buffet type setting at the reception or finger foods? Which is cheapest? I know the timing of the reception has a great deal of wether or not a full dinner or finger foods. I would love to have a wedding around 2ish or 3ish. Please all comments are welcome, this is so stressing me out because I’m limited with time and DEFFO limited with money. I am pretty sure family can help out with food, but just not money. I was thinking of bbq, but my fiance hates bbq…lol PLEASE HELP ![]()
Oh and I forgot about floral arrangments… grrr its always something else….lol
I like the idea with a covered dish. But wouldn’t that be too unappropriate or not? Would you be willing to bring a covered dish to a wedding?

For the food consider asking friends or family members to maybe bring a side dish or drinks and you could only purchase the main dish and cake, to cut down on your cost. And for decorations shop around at local craft stores, party stores, and even thrift shops for supplies and get creative with the decorations. Also go to orientaltrading.com. You can buy favors, decorations, and other necessities in bulk and at lower prices.

Royal blue would be better or the black and change sash to pink, reason for this go to yard sales and buy vases used for a dozen roses, all green or all clear. Go to florist in a good supermarket and ask if they will help you out on multi-colored bunches that come wrapped in paper and are down in water. These are multi colored. Cut new stem ends at an angle and put in room temp. sugar water, dissolve 1/2 cup sugar in hot water and cold and have two or three of these sitting around. Make your reception area multi-colored, will go good with black dresses, but red sash is throwing me off. Most bouquets are yellows, pinks, lavenders, etc. Go to Dollar Tree and buy plates, etc. Or can opt our for a red/black color scheme, florist in g.store should help you or just use silks, more dec. listed below.. Balloons, crepe paper, curly ribbon and tulle, can drape tulle around tables and secure with masses of curled curly ribbon. If go w/red/black-use red/black curly ribbon.
Buy three or four sheet cakes, each one decorated in roses in your four colors, a yellow, a pink, etc. or all red roses.
For all bouquets, make yours bigger, get the multi colored bunches for bmaids, measure stems so that all flowers are same length and cut all stems straight across, put a rubber band at top of stems and at bottom, can cover with ribbon or leave as is. Yours, get some white, cream pastel roses or carnations—very cheap, but now come in many vivid colors, bridesmaids could carry a single long stemmed carnation with a bow and streamers. If you are having a MOH, let her carry three. If you want silk, walmart has a good selection of silks and they have bouquet holders with lace around and styrofoam, just remember to buy some greenery. Go to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and ask for leatherleaf, most commonly used greenery and can be cut into two or three pieces each stem, depending on size of bouquet. $ stores also have nice silks, try Dollar Tree and Family Dollar. Buy single long stemmed red rose for bm if you keep the red sash and make your bouquet mostly white roses but with some red. Use rubber band and hand wrap stems with white ribbon for you. Just a rose and a small bow and streamers for bm.
I would have family help me with finger foods and cakes. Some inexpensive finger foods are:
Veggie trays, buy whole veggies and wash and cut yourselves, Pre-cut are more expensive and not as fresh. Dip–sour cream mixed with dry onion soup mix. Mix to your taste.
Cheese Balls–buy premade at grocery store or get Aunt Betty to make her specialility.
Cocktail weiners in crock pot with bar b q sauce or sweet and sour–(mustard, brown sugar and a dash of garlic)—–substitute regular weiners and cut on diagonal.
Punch—an expensive recipe that you can be buying up—equal parts of apple juice and white grape juice, pre-mix and freeze in gallon milk
Good idea—watermelon goes a long way, carve out one just leave a handle, cut watermelon in one inch size chunks, add some honeydew and cantaloupe—do not really have to have a dip, just unless you want one. Cool whip now has a cream chese flavor–can’t think of name of it. Use store brands or go to places like Sam’s club or Costco and buy in bulk.
If you were to want to go with a red/black color scheme–let bm carry a long stem silk red rose, have your bouquet white and red, hand tied—again cut stems so that flowers are all one length.
If reception site has white tablecloths, go to cheapest store you can find and buy 2 inch wide black ribbon and put along length of table and make your own red rose petals, buy cheap bushes of red roses and take petals off; Thrift stores have budvases if you want to put a red rose on each table, buy some greenery for rose and have a bow if can afford. Hope this helps!!
